Stoke on Trent SEND Information

All of the children at Heron Cross are individuals, but sometimes one of them may require extra help to do their work.

They may need additional resources such as specialist programmes to help them to access the curriculum. They will benefit from work matched accurately to their individual needs and from the support of our SENCO.

Our Special Needs Co-ordinator is Miss Boon. One important aspect of her role as SENCO is in liaising with all adults who are involved with the children who have Special Needs.

Our Special Educational Needs procedures follow the New  Code of Practice  which became law in September 2014.

We include everyone in our school family and any child with a disability is treated the same as their able bodied counterpart.

We are very proud of our Nurture Provison which provides a relaxed homely environment for working with individuals or small groups. We like to do practical activities with our children such as cookery and art. We provide support for children who are going through difficulties, emotional, social and behavioural.

Here are some useful resources which give lots of practical activities and ideas for your children.

SEN Specific Resources:

The government have collated a list of Educational and SEN Resources; this may give you some ideas of activities.

In addition; the best Autism resources can be found on the NAS site. There is so much information out there and sometimes just going to one really good website is the best option:

These websites offer advice for school staff and parents including advice for supporting young people who are experiencing heightened levels of anxiety due to the pandemic:
