Assessment

Assessment at

Heron Cross

  • Pupils are continually assessed to ensure they are completing work suited to their academic ability.  This ongoing assessment allows teachers to plan differentiated activities to suit the needs of all learners.

  • Formal assessment points are held termly in December, March and June.  Data is entered into the school’s assessment program.  There are a number of reports that teachers can print off to establish progress made and future target setting.

  • Pupils are set new individual targets on a termly basis.  These are specifically set for the individual.  Copies of the targets can be found in the pupils’ maths / English / science books and reading records.

  • There are 6 progress review meetings held over the academic year.  Class teachers meet with the Senior Leadership Team to discuss the progress of the class as a whole and individual pupils.  At these meetings target group action plans are set up and any intervention strategies that may be needed organised.

  • There are three opportunities over the academic year where parents are invited in to speak to the class teachers directly; Autumn Term 1 (usually October), Spring Term 1 (usually February) and Summer 2 (July following the reports being distributed).  However, as Heron Cross Primary School has an ‘open door’ policy you are invited to contact your teachers anytime to arrange a meeting.

  • Pupils on the SEN register will have the opportunity to attend additional meetings with the SENCO, Educational Psychologist, HSLW and Class Teacher where and when necessary.

  • Since the removal of the National Curriculum levels, we have devised a tracking system that takes into account the expectations of each year group.  At the start of the academic year all pupils will begin at emerging or below.  As the year progresses pupils will move through each ‘level’ as shown in the table below:
BEL BEL BEL EM EM EM EXP EXP EXP EXC EXC EXC
