FS1 SMSC and British Values

SMSC and British Values

British Values

Within our class and throughout the wider school we follow the principles of British Values. We promote these values in all that we do and through the following ways:

We work extremely hard in all that we do and as a reward each week we have Golden Time. We are given a choice of how we would like to spend our Golden Time and then we hold a vote to decide.

The Rule of Law

At Heron Cross we follow the Golden Rules, these are rules that govern the class and the wider school. We are taught the value and the reasons behind these rules and how they govern and protect us.

These are our Golden Rules:

Each week the school holds a celebration assembly, this is where one of us from every class is selected by our teacher to receive the ‘Star of the week’ award for following the Golden Rules. In Nursery as well as the award we also get to take home the class teddy bear for the weekend, his name is Hamish McBear. We write about our adventures and then read these out to the rest of the class on the following Monday.

Individual Liberty

Within school we are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that we are in a safe and supportive environment. We are encouraged to know, understand and exercise our rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-safety and PSHE lessons.

Mutual Respect

Part of our schools ethos and behaviour policy revolves around the core value of ‘Respect’, we have held circle times and been part of school assemblies related to what this means and how it is shown.

Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

Through whole school assemblies, circle times and our RE and PSHE lessons we are gaining an understanding of people with different faiths and beliefs. We understand that each and every person is different and unique and that all opinions should be valued.
